Having read in Genesis 45, I could not help but notice some parallels between Joseph and Jesus (Yeshua).
4 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
In verse 5, we see Joseph telling his brothers, “Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.“.
And then in verse 7, Joseph again explains to his brothers, “And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.“.
Finally in verse 8, Joseph reiterates that it is G_d who has sent him ahead. “So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God:”
How does this seem to be a parallel to the L_rd Yeshua?
Yeshua was also sent by G_d, (to be precise, He came out forth from the bosom of the Father in Heaven. See below bible verses), and for the final work of redemption, to the saving of souls from eternal separation from the Holy One of Israel.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It has always been G_d’s plan to reconcile sinful man back to Himself. G_d provided animal skins to cover over the sins of Adam and Eve.
Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
G_d provided Abraham the lamb for a burnt offering.
Genesis 22:7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Genesis 22:8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
Genesis 22:9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
Genesis 22:10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
Genesis 22:11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
Genesis 22:12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
Genesis 22:13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.
Genesis 22:14 So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Joseph was sent ahead by G_d in order to save the children of Jacob from starvation due to the severe famine in the region. We are told in the Scripture passages of Genesis that this famine was severe, and lasted 7 years. Later on, the temple system was given by G_d to Israel, for national covering of sins by the bloody animal sacrifices. The animals in and of themselves never took away sins, they served as covering, coupled with a repentant heart because only G_d can remove the stain of sin, only G_d can declare one forgiven and free of condemnation, reconciling man back to Himself.
Do you see a theme of G_d providing the sin/guilt offering? These are pictures, and patterns, pointing us ultimately to G_d’s righteous provision of salvation, reconciling man back to Himself. Today, we have peace with G_d in our hearts and an eternity with Him because of the provision of His only begotten Son, The Son of David, the Messiah Yeshua. It has always been by faith in G_d that one is counted as righteous before Him, as Abraham was.
Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
